How to Reclaim Wednesdays as More Than Just "Hump Day"
We all feel it. Wednesday. The middle of the week. It’s not good…it’s not bad. It just is. Please tell me you have had these same feelings about Wednesday, too?
I have a challenge for us today…and every Wednesday.
Let’s boldly and intentionally turn Wednesdays around by putting our focus on God and proclaiming His goodness. Let’s turn Wednesdays into “His goodness” day. I’m not just talking about quietly, during our time with God.
Let’s do this publicly!
I’m challenging us to intentionally set aside Wednesdays as a day to write about, talk about, and post about God’s goodness in our lives. Let’s inundate people’s social media feeds with how good God is, with stories of where God has shown up for us and what He has done specifically in our lives.
I’m all for being real about our struggles in life and not putting forth the image of having it all together. None of us do! But sometimes I think we are in danger of glorifying our struggles more than we glorify God.
There seems to be such a hesitation to share the good things. To share when God has shown up in our lives, when we were blessed by someone or something, when the good out-weighed the bad. I know this because I find myself hesitating all the time.
Perhaps we are overly concerned about coming across as bragging or being prideful. Instead of sharing, we hold back and hide what God has done in fear of what someone else may think.
Do you see the enemy at work here, though?! We were created to glorify God, to praise Him and give Him honor. Not just privately, during our “quiet time” with Him. We were created to publicly proclaim His goodness, to share all the wonderful things He has done. Just read the book of Psalms for numerous examples.
When we proclaim His goodness in our lives—the places and times He has shown up—we are not bragging about ourselves or seeking our own glory. We are bragging on God, giving Him the glory He deserves.
It takes practice.
You may be thinking: “Yeah, that sounds great, but I can’t think of anything really good that He has done in my life lately.”
I hear you, and I’d like to challenge you to start looking for it. It’s easy to discount certain things as coincidence or random, but we serve a God who can and does work and move in all kinds of creative ways. If He were predictable, we would have Him all figured out. It wouldn’t require any faith for us to believe in Him.
I have a whole a theory about sunsets and seeing God in our everyday lives, about how Jesus is our stairway to Heaven (John 1:51). When we keep our focus, our gaze on Him, we’ll see more of God, more of His goodness.
The key is to be looking for Him. The more we look for Him, the more we will find Him.
Let’s start a movement!
I mean that seriously. Let’s boldly begin proclaiming His goodness in our lives. Let’s share when He shows up. Let’s brag on our God! Let’s fill people’s social media feeds with His goodness, the wonderful things He does.
I’m not saying to ignore the struggles. Keep sharing those, but let’s also share when God moves in the midst of the struggles. Let’s make Him known for His goodness and being faithful to His Word.
consistency is key.
I’m challenging us to do this weekly. The more consistent we are with looking for His goodness and sharing it, the more impact it will have on our lives and the lives of those who will see it.
Will you join me? Every Wednesday let’s boldly and publicly proclaim the goodness of God in our lives. It can be simple and small, or it can be big and dramatic. God does it all.
Let’s do it together! Use the hashtag #HisGoodnessProject and let’s spread the word as we spread His goodness. I’ll need your help to make this happen. Please share. Please tell others how God has been good in your life.
