A Practical Way to Approach Praying for our Kids

prayerforkids.jpg

At the beginning of this school year, I was inspired to create simple verse card keychains for my kids to put on their backpacks as they embarked on the adventure of a new school year. I’m not unaware of the pressures, stress, and even fears they are open to experiencing while at school, so I had been trying to come up with ways to send them with physical reminders of the truth and love they always have available to them in Jesus, whether Mommy and Daddy are around or not. Enter these cute little verse card keychains.

What started as a simple offering of encouragement for my kids, turned into a practical way for me to pray for them this year. And I shared those prayers via instagram (of course) with the hopes that it would help others out there know that it doesn’t have to be complicated or difficult to specifically and boldly pray for our children.

I’m going to share the prayers here so they have a permanent place to exist. At the end of this post, I will provide a link for you to be able to download the PDF of these little verse cards. You can make yourself or your little ones a set of these verse card keychains!

Prayers for our children:

strongandbrave.jpg

strong + Brave

Dear Lord, we pray that our kids will be strong, brave, and courageous as they are at school. The school year can be full of so much unknown, and we ask that you help our kids be brave and strong even if they don’t feel like it. Thank you, Lord, for always being with them, helping them, and giving them the strength they need. We, as parents, can rest in the truth that you are with them wherever they go. In the name of Jesus, amen!

Amazing + Wonderful

Dear Lord, we pray that our children live in the full knowledge that they are amazing and wonderful exactly as you made them! Fill them with confidence in who they are, because you created them with love and purpose. They are fully known and fully loved by you, the one who knows everything about them and has great plans for them. Lord, also help them to understand all the kids at school are amazing and wonderful just as you made them. With that understanding, we pray our children will be kind, generous, and loving toward all their peers. Fill their hearts with your love, and help their actions line up with that love. In the name of Jesus, amen!

Safety + Protection

Dear Lord, thank you for watching over our children, whether they are physically with us or not. Keep them safe. Protect them. And give them strength. May they know YOU are their safety and protection, the one they can turn to in times of trouble. We pray they remember YOU are near and on their side always. In the name of Jesus, amen.

Shine brightly

Dear Lord, we ask that you help our children be the lights you created them to be. Help them to shine brightly and boldly wherever they go. May their actions, behaviors, and words be a reflection of you. May their good deeds be a witness of you in their lives. We believe other children and teachers will be drawn to your love and grace that shines through them. We believe they will see you! In the name of Jesus, amen.

Radiant with Joy

Dear Lord, we thank you for being a God who answers us and frees us from all our fears and anxieties. You not only answer us as mothers, fathers, and loved ones, but you also answer our children when they ask for your help. Thank you for freeing them from any fears they may have about school—new friends, new teachers, new classes, etc. We speak joy into the lives of our children as they look to you for help. May you be their source of joy. Joy that outlasts and withstands any and every situation. In the name of Jesus, amen.
